"Dad of Boi"
So I just beat God of War. So how was it? If you've been a fan since 2005 then your initial reaction would be "It's different". A welcome change but different nonetheless.
I'm no journalist or reviewer so basically this is an input of long time fan.
God of War is known for its take on Greek Mythology but this time it traded Greek to Norse, so yes Odin and Thor is on this game (mentioned only).
Story is about Kratos and his fresh start on fatherhood, he kept his past from his son thus Atreus (the son also known as "BOI") doesn't know that his father was the God of War on a different world and that he (Atreus) is part god.
We have a different Kratos now, in 6 games he was an angry dude but this time he's more calm.
Combat and point of view is a farcry from the first 6 games. From a fixed camera perspective to a more free control camera. From birds eye view to a over the shoulder view. The combat is a bit odd when you're used to the previous games because instead of square and triangle as your light and heavy attacks, they changed it to R1 and R2 and you use X to dodge now and not the right stick. Combat is still fluid and satisfying, you get to throw your axe and recall it ala Thor's Mjolnir.
So is the game any good? Yes. Does it deserve the praises that it got? Absolutely. But is it the best game in the franchise? Now that's debatable. Is it the best game of all time? Not by a long shot, there are better games but this game is in the upper echelon of great games.
So the question now is, should you buy it? If you're a long time fan then absolutely. But if not then no, game is still expensive at its current price and don't ride the hype train. If you wanna play a game with great story and similar gameplay then I suggest you play the Witcher 3 (it's better).
Also, you could play this game even if you haven't played a single God of War game. Just saying.
